JHCampAfter weeks of preparation and hard work, the group of 6th and 7th grade girls that make up the 2017-2018 False River Academy Jr. High Cheer Team attended NCA Cheer Camp to demonstrate their abilities and enhance their skills. The team of 11 junior Gators, lead by Coach Lori McNaughten and Assistant Coach Courtney Weber, proved proficient at the NCA Camp hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg on June 9-12th. Despite being the youngest team at camp, these young athletes walked away with multiple honors, which emphasized their talents individually and as a team.

Individually, a boastful 7 of the 11 girls on the team were nominated by NCA staff to try out for the All-American squad. Kayden Langlois, Ainzley McNaughten, Gracie Ringo, Adair Sadden, Skyler Sadden, Hannah Schexnaildre, and Kinsley Seneca were all offered the opportunity to audition which provides them the opportunity to participate in the Orlando Thanksgiving Parade. Of these 7 nominations, 6th grader Hannah Schexnaildre was 1 of approximately 26 cheerleaders chosen to represent the camp as a member of the All-American Team. Additionally, Gracie Ringo and Hannah Schexnaildre were honored with a Pin It Forward Award; this award is given to only 20 girls in attendance at camp recognized to go above and beyond, show great spirit, and encourage others.

As a team, the Gator Squad certainly did not fall short. Throughout their time at camp, the team earned 2 Excellent Ribbons, 2 Superior Ribbons, and received the Spiritstick every night.  They also received a bid for Nationals in Orlando, Florida. Most notably, these young Gators received two honors, which award them the opportunity to attend and perform at the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. They won 1st Place in Game Day, which gives them the opportunity to perform at the game. They also received the Jr. High Herkie Team Award. The recipient of this award is chosen by the NCA staff and given to one Varsity and one Jr. High squad to recognize the team who displays the character of what being a cheerleader is all about- spirit, teamwork, perseverance, and great attitudes.
